Categories of Membership

FULL MEMBERSHIP:

A person is eligible for Full Membership if the person lawfully carries on business as a travel agent in the Commonwealth of Australia or in any of its Territories.
The Board may, upon being satisfied by an applicant for Full Membership, in its discretion admit the applicant to Full Membership, if in its opinion, the applicant is fit and proper to be a Full Member of the Federation. The Board must, when considering an application for Full Membership, take into account whether the applicant:
(a) carries on its business as a lawfully operating travel agent.
(b) being a natural person, is a person who has, or who carries on business as a travel agent in partnership with a person who has, two or more consecutive years experience in managing a travel agency or carrying on a business as a travel agent or has one year of such experience and has successfully completed a course of study approved by the Board;
(c) being a Corporation, employs in the carrying on of its business as a travel agent, a person who has either the two or more years' experience or the one years' experience and completion of study referred to in Article 9(b):
(d) is in a sound financial position and keeps proper financial records:
(e) holds a professional indemnity insurance policy complying with the Article 23(a)

ADDITIONAL LOCATION:

A Full Member must register with the Federation the address of any premises other than the Principle Location ("Additional Location") from which it, or a subsidiary of that corporation, carries on business as a travel agent and must notify the Federation of any change in any such address within fourteen days after such change.

MULTI/BUYING GROUP:
|
If an applicant is a member of a group and wishes to pay the concessional membership fee available by reason of the membership of such group, the applicant then loses the right to vote at AFTA general meetings and state elections.

ALLIED MEMBERSHIP:
|
Subject to Article 6, a person who is not wholly engaged in the business of a travel agent but is regularly engaged in the travel industry or in an industry related thereto in the Commonwealth of Australia or in any of it’s Territories is eligible for Allied Membership.

NON-RESIDENT MEMBERSHIP:
|
A person carrying on business outside the Commonwealth of Australia and its Territories may be admitted to Non-Resident Membership provided it would be eligible for Full Membership or Allied Membership except for the fact that it carries on business outside the Commonwealth and its Territories.
