The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has commenced a new initiative named The Small Business Assistance Program.

The ATO’s Small Business Assistance Program provides free, practical help which is aimed at keeping businesses on track.

ATO Measures to help small businesses meet tax payment obligations still available

Businesses with an annual turnover of less than $2 million who are having difficulty managing their tax payment obligations in the current economic climate still have time to take advantage of Tax Office assistance measures. The measures have already given welcome relief to thousands of businesses since they were introduced in June this year.

Eligible small businesses have until 30 June 2010 to apply for:
• 12-month general interest charge (GIC) free payment arrangements
• deferred activity statement payment due dates – we can grant requests for deferrals of up to:
- two months for quarterly and annual payers
- one month for monthly payers.

If you have a tax debt of $25,000 or less, you can use the automated self-help service to make a payment arrangement by phoning 13 72 26 at any time.

Alternatively, phone the ATO on 13 11 42 from 8.00am – 6.00pm, Monday to Friday to discuss your tax debt.
