OUR LECTURERS – OUR STRENGTH

The strength of our program lies with our lecturers. Each is a specialist in their field. Their experience in all aspects of the industry, coupled with their educational background, enables them to best understand classroom practice, to embrace diverse methodologies and to best suit the needs of individual students.

The focus at TAFE SA is to employ people who have had hands on industry experience in their field. This means they know the skills demanded by the industry you are looking to enter.


TRINA BIANCHINI
Trina has been associated with the travel industry since 1981. During this time she has worked as a travel agent in retail travel and the corporate travel market. While lecturing for TAFE SA Trina has developed online course material for her specialty subjects – Computer Reservations Systems (CRS) and Airfares and Ticketing. These subjects are taught using the Sabre Global Distribution System which ensures students are trained using the latest industry technology.


PAMELA WOOD
Pam began her career in the travel and tourism industry in 1979. She has also worked in retail & corporate travel both consulting and in agency management. She feels privileged to be in her current role as a lecturer at the AFTA Travel College where she works with Trina to deliver the fares and ticketing subjects.


MICHELLE ARBUCKLE
Michelle has been working in the travel industry since 1975 first as a retail consultant then manager then moved into being a Sabre (CRS) trainer. Along with Pam and Trina she also teaches our airfares & ticketing subjects. These are taught in an integrated package that most resembles ‘life as a travel agent”.


CATHY TURNER – AFTA CO-ORDINATOR
Cathy has been in the travel and tourism industry since 1985. She brings to the AFTA Travel and Tourism College knowledge and experience having worked in retail travel, corporate travel and in sales and marketing. Cathy has travelled widely within Australia and overseas and this passion makes her an excellent lecturer on Australian and international destinations. Cathy knows and understands the importance of training and education for potential travel industry employees to ensure they meet the skill requirements of industry.


RALPH WALKER
Ralph has been involved in the travel industry for 30 years. He completed a Diploma of Tourism in the early 1980’s whilst working at Westpac Travel as an international travel consultant. Ralph joined TAFE in 1985 and completed a Bachelor of Education in 1991. During his career he has taught all the travel subjects and specialises in fares and ticketing, destination studies, travel products and airport operations management. He has travelled extensively and is regarded as an international cruise expert having had cruise reviews published on various websites worldwide.


MERILYN ASHENDEN (EXTERNAL LECTURER)
Merilyn has been associated with the travel industry for over 30 years working with an international airline company and in industry training. For the past 10 years, she has worked with the AFTA Education & Training Programme, managing and tutoring in the AFTA External Studies component of the college. In this role she has knowledge of all competencies covered within the Certificate III. In addition, she teaches SABRE and Australian Travel Products to the internal AFTA College students.


JANET SELBY FULLGRABE
Janet has worked in a Customer Service role in the retail and tourism industry over the last 30 years. She was employed in the wine industry in the Barossa Valley in a promotional role, working with visitors from all over the world who had come 'for a taste of Australia'.

Her time as a function co-ordinator for the award winning Barossa Vintage Festival has also given her insight into event management.

She studied with the AFTA college in 2005 and was asked to join the college in a supportive role soon after. She also lectures in Customer Service & Sales Techniques and is a lecturer in the new TAFE SA Tourism virtual enterprise, Experience SA.
