[19 December 2018:] The Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) has revealed that the 2018 National Travel Industry Awards (NTIA) will be held on Saturday 21 July 2018 in the Grand Ballroom at the International Convention Centre, Sydney.
Qantas continues to demonstrate their firm commitment to AFTA and travel agents through the valued Platinum Partnership with AFTA and as the Major Sponsor of NTIA.
In 2018, Finalists in the judged categories will again benefit from the amazing facilities at the Qantas Mascot Campus as the chosen venue for the judging process.
Vanessa Hudson, Qantas Executive Manager Sales and Distribution said Qantas was proud to continue its longstanding partnership with AFTA and be the major sponsor of the NTIA again in 2018.
“The NTIA shines a spotlight on the best that our industry has to offer which is why we’re pleased to be the event’s major sponsor for the eleventh year,” said Ms Hudson.
“As a platinum partner of AFTA we look forward to another collaborative year to assist in delivering outstanding support and advocacy for the Australian travel industry,” Hudson added.
As the NTIA builds in its relevance to the travel industry, AFTA will be doing things a little differently in 2018. Committed to ensuring the integrity of the award process, and improving upon the fair and equitable selection of Finalists, the industry can expect a few changes to the nomination, voting & judging processes.
Nominees in selected categories will now be required to answer a range of questions in order to accept their nomination. The answers will be marked by a University level marker and this process will determine who proceeds through to being a Finalist. For the majority of the judged categories, this means, that there will not be voting for these categories.
“As we follow a continuous improvement mantra for NTIA, adding a two-step process and a next level of validation and business metrics, to determine the best of the best in the various categories will greatly enhance the value of the process for participants,” said Jayson Westbury, AFTA Chief Executive.
Additionally, 2018 will be the first year that a separate category for the home-based consultant model will be introduced. The new category, Best Travel Broker Network, will celebrate the network which demonstrates best practice in service delivery through its network of professional travel consultants operating remotely to the company headquarters. The category will be open to networks who can demonstrate they have more than 35 active individual participants within their network.
“It’s going to be a busy 2018 and NTIA is once again set to celebrate all the areas of the travel sector in Australia. These enhancements have come as a result of feedback from the members, suppliers and the judges and we look forward to implementing them seamlessly," said Westbury.
"The AFTA Travel Trend reports shows no sign that travel will be slowing down. That’s good for business, and an important reason why you should ear-mark the key NTIA dates in your calendar today. I look forward to celebrating with the industry on the 21 July, on what we promise to be another industry’s best,” said Westbury.
