AFTA welcomes decision to open nt border

[17 July 2020] The Australian Federation for Travel Agents (AFTA) today welcomed the Northern Territory Government’s decision to lift border restrictions to most other States and territories from today.

Quotes attributable to Darren Rudd, AFTA CEO:

The Northern Territory announcing the opening of its borders is yet another step in the right direction and a necessity to getting the top end travel industry and the wider Australian economy restarted.

The opening of the Northern Territory’s borders is an opportunity for the top end travel and tourism industry to cultivate the first green shoots of recovery, from our red centre to Darwin.

While the easing of domestic border restrictions is very positive news, the reality is, that until international borders open, the travel and tourism sector will not be operating at full strength.

For those now planning a trip to the Northern Territory, or locals themselves looking to explore the region, book with your local travel agent expert. You will be supporting your local economy, helping local jobs and the wider NT economy.

Northern Territory Agent:

Rachel Turner, Helloworld Travel Darwin. Since opening three decades ago, Rachel’s locally owned and operated business employs 5 staff.

“This will certainly get us moving again – our business relies on forward bookings which we can’t do without more days like today.”

“I know so many of my clients have itchy feet, and with international borders staying shut for the foreseeable future, this gives us the ability to start planning travel solutions for our clients heading into the Christmas holiday period and ramping up our domestic marketing activity.”

“When you use your expert local travel agent to book an Australian holiday, we’re the one phone call you need to make. You’re not left in an overseas call center queue, put on hold and transferred.”

“I’d like to thank the Federal and Territory Government for their continued support in terms of funding small Territorian businesses like us.”

AFTA is supporting the travel agency community, travelling public and travel suppliers to the best of our ability during this COVID-19 pandemic.
