Tempo Holidays cancellation and Exclusion from ACS

On the 22nd August 2019, AFTA announced the cancellation of Tempo Holidays’ ATAS Accreditation, and that Tempo Holidays had been added to the Excluded list for ACS. The exclusion is valid from 12pm on the 22nd August 2019, meaning that any credit card payments made by a customer under the scheme will not be protected against chargeback risk from that time on-wards.  All payments made before this time under the scheme remain protected.

This advice is a timely reminder to our ATAS members not yet participating in the ACS scheme, of the importance of protecting your business against end-supplier insolvency. ACS is active and the scheme has already paid out on several claims, following chargebacks against agents following Si Holidays and the flybmi airline collapse. As one ACS participant said to us, “you have to have rocks in your head not to be part of ACS!”.

So, what are you waiting for? The AFTA team are happy to discuss and assist you with the application process. Please contact us at acs@afta.com.au or on (02) 9287 9900 and select 2 for the Membership team.

ATAS Renewals Update

AFTA and the Compliance team would like to thank all our members for the timely submission of ATAS renewals, and payment of invoices this year. The majority of members (1152) have a 30 June renewal date, and 88% of members have submitted their renewals with most of them completed and paid.

There are 76 members yet to start their renewal and 66 who need to finalise their renewal application. Please be advised, that AFTA will shortly be issuing to those members a notice to show cause why such accreditation should not be cancelled, for failing to renew. Prompt attention to this notice is appreciated.

ATAS Complaint Appeal Committee (ACAC) Chairman

The ACAC has appointed Mr Hank Spier as interim Chairman, following the departure of Mr Graham McDonald. Mr Spier is the former CEO of the ACCC and has extensive experience as a lawyer and invaluable knowledge of the Competition and Consumer Act. A formal process has begun to appoint a permanent Chair, following the ATAS Charter and the ACAC Terms of Reference.
