New entertainment hub coming to Dubai’s Meydan district

Dubai is set to get a massive new entertainment hub when Soho Garden opens at Meydan on 22 December. A hugely ambitious project, the 14,000 sq m Soho Garden will bring new restaurants, lounges and night spots to Dubai, alongside swimming pools and a 10,000-capacity concert area, with the promise to bring “an unprecedented level of service with the best live talent” to the complex. With aesthetics described as a “unique mix of eclectic luxury, with laid-back chic”, the project will be fully operational by 2018, with the first section – including the pool club and several food and beverage outlets – set to open on 22 December.

The 800-capacity phase one of Soho Garden will include four bars designed to take guests on a transition from day to night, after they’ve soaked up rays at the daytime pool club, itself surrounded by lush foliage.
Indoor Glasshouse Bar, slick spot Bellini Bar, fun and laid-back Tiki Bar and the chic Negroni Bar promise guests a wide range of choice throughout the day. There are also plans for a huge New Year’s Eve party at the venue, which is billing itself as the hottest new location to ring in the big night, thanks to its uninterrupted views of the Downtown Dubai skyline. Cirque du Soleil’s Avatar-inspired musical heads to Dubai

It has been confirmed that Dubai World Trade Centre will host a new touring show by Cirque du Soleil from 4-17 January. Titled Toruk – The First Flight, it’s inspired by James Cameron film Avatar, according to the show’s creators. The 2009 outing on celluloid was the second-highest-grossing movie in history, second only to Gone with the Wind. Toruk – The First Flight is a musical set in Pandora 3,000 years before the events depicted in the film, and the two-hour show animates the diverse life forms that live there with extensive use of puppetry. Cameron has been involved with the project since talks began in 2009, finally giving it the green light in May 2014.

Described as a “live immer-sive experience” in which Cirque du Soleil “applies its unique signature style to James Cameron’s imaginary world”, it’s said to also bear the stylistic hallmarks of writers, directors and “multimedia innovators”, Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon.
