A: The relevant award is the General Retail Industry Award 2010. The relevant section is Clause 13. A casual employee must be paid at the ordinary hourly rate applicable to a full-time employee, plus an additional 25%.
Casual employees must be paid either at the end of each period of employment with your business, or on a weekly or fortnightly basis. The usual minimum daily engagement of a casual employee is three hours.
To avoid any pay disputes, you are advised to provide any casual employees with a written notice of the terms of their employment prior to them commencing employment with your business
