Removal of all COVID-19 Border Restrictions a Red Letter Day

Travelling into and out of Australia is now even easier with the Federal Government announcing an end to the Digital Passenger Declaration on COVID-19 vaccination status as of midnight AEST this coming Wednesday.

Minister for Home Affairs the Hon Clare O’Neil has confirmed the changes to the Biosecurity Act following health advice from the Chief Medical Officer.

The Australian Federation of Travel Agents applauds the decision which comes in time for school holidays and winter escape holidays.

Quotes from Australian Federation of Travel Agents (AFTA) CEO Dean Long (who is available for interview)

“These final steps in returning travel to normal could not come at a better time.”

“With school holidays underway or about to kick off in many states and territories, and a rapidly growing number of Australians keen to escape the Australian winter, the pressure on our airports and airport staff is huge.”

“Removing these last requirements will help reduce delays in airports and make it easier for Australians coming back home.”

“Australia’s travel professionals look forward to continuing to work with the Federal Government on the practicalities of the Digital Passenger Declaration as we move towards it replacing the paper-based incoming passenger card. The current digital approach had multiple issues which meant it wasn’t working for any of the participants and AFTA has been pushing hard on the need to take a step back and get it right.”

“We thank the Federal Government for continuing to assess the situation and for working with AFTA and Australia’s Travel and Tourism Sectors on our revival as we all get people travelling again.”
